- I have been both a professional musician and drum tutor for 15 years.
- I teach all ages from 5 years upwards, and from beginner to advanced levels. (Grade 8+).
- I have a passion for my instrument and I strive to pass this onto each and every student I work with.
My drum lessons incorporate the following-
- Styles including- Rock, Drum and bass, Funk, Latin, Brazilian, Jazz
- Grade exams
- Playing by ear
- Song structures
- Kit maintenance/ tuning.
My aim is to support and encourage each student to achieve his or her potential and individual ambitions. This could be anything from taking a grade exam, to learning a set of songs for a gig, studying to gain a place at University, or just playing for fun. The benefits of musical instrument lessons are not only confined to progressing at that particular instrument, but also are proven to build confidence, social skills and self esteem, which is why I believe learning an instrument is a life enhancing experience.
I studied music in Manchester at Salford University and since graduating in 1997 have worked as a freelance musician and teacher ever since. I have had many varied jobs in the industry, including playing in a jazz Quartet on a cruise Ship to playing in a signed band- touring with Doves, Starsailor, Badly Drawn Boy and the Cranberries. I have been lucky enough to play in such venues as the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Manchester Bridgewater Hall. I’ve also played in bands with which I have recorded live radio sessions for Radio 2, 6 Music, and Virgin. Since moving to Norwich I have worked for several years at a Further Education College providing group tuition in band skills as well as teaching and preparing drummers to gain places at University. I have also been involved in setting up regular workshops and Rockschools for young people aged 11-17 to gain experience playing live in bands, which has been a rewarding experience. Currently, I work as a freelance musician and gig with several bands regularly. My particular expertise is Funk, Latin and Jazz as I enjoy playing these styles of music. I have an up to date CRB check and currently also hold a chaperone licence from Norfolk County council.
